Dr. Wilburn is an evolutionary biochemist whose research is focused on reproductive biology and understanding how sexual selection shapes interacting pairs of male-female proteins over evolutionary time. Current major areas of research include:

• Species specificity of interacting sperm-egg proteins in abalone

• Mechanisms of gamete fusion in abalone

• Evolution of pre- vs post-mating pre-zygotic barriers in lungless salamanders

• Cryptic sources of male infertility in humans
